Wet Clutches

Eaton/Dana Corporation in the past has used fully automated wet clutches on some versions of its AutoShift transmission used in medium-duty applications. The AutoShift automated transmission was a first-generation two-pedal system. This wet clutch technology used a creep feature known as Urge-to-Move. Urge-to-Move loads a continuous 45 pound-feet of torque to the transmission through the wet-clutch pack so that the driver senses engagement any time the shift lever is in the drive position. The Urge-to-Move torque feature gives a typical truck the ability to move ahead on a 6 percent grade. This system requires a cooler for the auto transmission fluid.
