Inductive Amp Clamp

An inductive amp clamp can be used to measure AC or DC. It is a transducer that produces an output of 1mV per ampere. The test leads are connected to the V and common input jacks. The DMM function switch should be set to the V or mV scale, selecting V-AC for AC current or V-DC for DC current measurements. The inductive pickup is clamped around the wire through which current flow is to be measured. Like the current transformer, an inductive amp clamp is not especially accurate. It may be used to measure cranking motor current draw, alternator current, and many other daily tasks performed in truck service facilities. The advantage of the amp clamp is that is does not have to be wired into the circuit.
